Porth Wen - Llanbadrig Circular Walk (7.63km)

Image
I had never done this route before but had wanted to for a long time. It was just me and the baby today which I think was a good decision. The 4 year old would have easily handled the distance and terrain but there were a few precarious cliff top moments! I occasionally (when I remember) carry a walking stick and today was one of those days I was glad I had it. Most of the walk was pretty straightforward although there were some steep sections with steps up and down. However, one or two places required a bit of thought and careful manouvering, especially whilst carrying a 10 month old in a rucksack!  This walk is especially suited to people who have an interest in history. It takes in Victorian industry, an ancient hill fort and the oldest church in Wales. It is located on the North coast of Ynys Môn, near the town of Cemaes.  Distance: 7.63km (according to the OS map app) Time taken: 2 hrs 15 Total ascent: 441.54m (OS Map app) Parking: Very limited parking along ...

Mynydd Llwydiarth / Pentraeth Forest (3.72km)

This walk is a family favourite. It’s quite a short one for us but a lovely way to spend an hour with stunning views of Eryri (Snowdonia), a derelict cottage and beautiful woodland. There are plenty of options to add loops if you fancy a longer walk.  Mynydd Llwydiarth is located near Traeth Coch (Red Wharf Bay) on the East Coast of Ynys Môn. Mynydd means “mountain” but at only 153.3m high Mynydd Llwydiarth is really just a hill! Pentraeth forest was planted on the mynydd in the 1950’s and was, until recent re-introduction, the last refuge for Anglesey’s red squirrels.  Distance: 3.72km Time taken: 1 hour 15mins Total ascent: 148.43m Parking: space for 4 cars if parked sensibly Facilities: None. No toilets and no bins. Please take rubbish / dog poo home with you.  1. For parking you need to turn by the Panton Arms pub in the village of Pentraeth onto the B5109 towards Beaumaris. The parking is on the left after leaving the village. There are two options for parking...

Camau bach/ Little steps

Image
Welcome to my new blog, Camau Bach.  I’m a 33 year old mum of two from Ynys Môn (Anglesey), Gogledd Cymru (North Wales).  My eldest daughter, Megan, is 4 years old and my youngest, Anwen, is 10 months old. I gave birth to Anwen during the first big lockdown of the Covid 19 pandemic, in April 2020. The last year, although difficult, has made me realise how extremely fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I’ve been on maternity leave from my job as a teacher since Anwen’s birth but there have been no baby classes, no swimming lessons, no chance to meet up and socialise with other new mums and so walking and exploring the local area with my genod (girls) has been such a welcome escape.              As mentioned above, I am a teacher by profession. My subject is Welsh and I am extremely passionate about the language and culture of Wales. I will use the correct Welsh names for places in this blog (with English transl...
